Medicare is the health plan for Americans over 60. Some older than 60 are eligible to receive Medicare also. These include people unable to use the system or people with permanent or severe kidney disease. The program supports the cost of healthcare but doesn't cover medical bills or the cost of most long-term care. You can select which insurance plan you want.

Alternatively, you can purchase Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap) from any private insurance provider. You'll pay an Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) if, as an individual, you made more than $91,000; or, as a married couple, more than $182,000.

Is Medicare Part A free?

Medicare Part A is a Medicare portion that provides inpatient care, hospice care and restricted stays at a medical center. You can get a free Medicare Part B deductible for working for 40 quarters of your life. You'll be paid a monthly premium if your Part A employment was not completed in less than 40 years of work. You are eligible for premium-free Part A if you are age 65 or older and you or your spouse worked and paid Medicare taxes for at least 10 years.

Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) helps pay for inpatient care in a hospital or limited time at a skilled nursing facility. If you're under 65, you can get premium-free Part A if: You got Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits for 24 months.

Is Medicare Part B free?

Part B relates to the outpatient service. All routine outpatient services like medical care labs, treatment, and more are covered by Part B. Certain services in a hospital such as chemotherapy, dialysis, diagnostic imaging, and other are usually covered by Part B. If you are covered by Medicare, it can help you. Part B enrolled persons typically receive standard monthly premiums. Until 2020, the annual standard premium will be $170.10.

Why are some Medicare Advantage Plans Free?

Part D has changed policies since the Medicare Modernization Act. Before introducing such changes, Medicare customers had incurred their costs to buy prescription drugs online. This can prove quite costly. Part D is not FREE but if the policy applies certain products will cost 0. You might consider a Part D plan like your pharmacy card that will allow your prescription medications to be purchased without paying full retail prices or paying a fee. Parts D are voluntary plans with monthly fees that vary depending on which states offer them and which plan they choose. It is important to research all of the different plans available, compare them, and consider factors such as cost, coverage, and access to providers.
